To ensure vegetation of significance is appropriately managed within certain Brisbane Priority Development Areas (PDAs), the Economic Development (Vegetation Management) By-law 2013 (PDF icon 390 KB) was introduced, which operates in conjunction with relevant development schemes.

This means that vegetation clearing is regulated through the individual development schemes for each of the five Brisbane PDAs while the by-law deals with other interference with vegetation, such as pruning for the Bowen Hills, Fitzgibbon and Northshore Hamilton PDAs.

Prior to being declared PDAs, vegetation in these three areas was dealt with by Brisbane City Council under Council's Natural Assets Local Law 2003.

  • If you want to clear vegetation, check the relevant development scheme to see if you need to lodge a development application.
  • If you want to interfere with vegetation in the Bowen Hills, Fitzgibbon and Northshore Hamilton PDAs you may need to apply for a permit under the by-law (see Economic Development (vegetation management) by-law 2013).
