The Queensland Government is now in caretaker mode until after the state election. Minimal updates will be made to this site until after the election results are declared.

In making its decisions about the remuneration to be paid to mayors, deputy mayors and councillors, the tribunal must have regard to:

  • provisions of the Local Government Act 2009 relating to the entitlements and responsibilities of councillors
  • community expectations about what is an appropriate level of remuneration in the circumstances.

After its determination, the tribunal must prepare a written report on:

  • the establishment of categories of local government
  • the category to which each local government has been assigned
  • the remuneration levels determined for mayors, deputy mayors and councillors in each council category
  • any approvals made under s248 of the Local Government Regulation 2012 to vary a councillor's remuneration because of exceptional circumstances.
